Booklovers are people who love to spend their time reading books. It is great to spread your view and knowledge by reading, you can travel to places you never been and find out things you never supposed to exist. As an indie author, I am looking for my readers, I am willing to spread my circle, but people are of various kinds. Not every reader is suitable for every author. Accord my experience, here are 7 types of readers: Fake reader . He will give you a review, but he is not indeed interested to read your books. He just wishes to do a favor but your book is not his choice. Santa Claus reader. This is a person who will take your free book, promise a review, and then vanish. You will never get your review, and this reader is real as Santa Claus. Picky reader. This is an honest person who will immediately say "I am not interested" or "I will read your book. Then I turned to romance stories with a reality check. This year I changed the direction. My role model is Agatha Christie, so I wanted to give a chance myself to write thrillers. When I started to write, I met many interesting people who are reading and writing. I got some advice, various kinds. Some advice was useless and ego-bursting, and some were good for my progress. I also realized that is a dangerous world of competition and some people are like vultures, ready to remove you from their path or to ask for money to fill their pockets. So, what kind of indie authors you might face? Smartass. The one who offers you editing for a suitable fee even though you did not ask for it. Also, he will lecture you on how you must work on your books and read other writers.  The snitch . He will report you if you have bad formatting, a title that is provoking, or content that damaged his moral standards. For example, my title "Seduce her with a fist" is a metaphor title, a book is against violence, this is an example story. But, the indie author reported it as violent and abusive. Every author will face a bad review for his book, sooner or later. You might have a perfect book, but there is always a reader who will think differently.  If you think that a good editor and translator will help you to change the audience's opinion, you are wrong. Your book is an investment, you paid an illustrator, editor, and beta readers, but still, this is not enough to be a bestseller. You got a bad review. What do I consider a bad review? 1 star on Amazon. 2 stars on Amazon. Receiving bad reviews doesn't mean that your book is a pile of rubbish.  The reasons for bad reviews might be different: It could be an act of revenge . Someone doesn't like you and he will spit at your book. The reader doesn't like this genre, yet he read and reviews. It could be trolling . Such people exist and mark many books with bad ratings, just to make a mess. It might be compensation. If you give an author a bad mark, he can do it for you too. I t has been three years since I uploaded my first book on Amazon.  If I knew then what I know nowadays, things would be different.  I made all the possible mistakes that indie authors could do, and this affected my status on Amazon, but not for so long. It was a good lesson. I did not edit the book. That is why my first review was one star. I did not order the cover. I use a Kindle pattern cover, that made book looks amateur. I did not make my Author page on Amazon.  After this, I gave a book on editing to an editor amateur. Of course, professional editors immediately guessed my editor is not English nor American. I try to explain to the reviewer that I edited the book later. Never talk to reviewers who give you negative reviews, they will not change their minds. Leave it their opinion, unless they are abusive.  I was asking for reviews from people I know. Nowadays many people wish to be popular. Everyone sees a chance to become an influencer, or celebrity, and it takes a lot of followers.  How do get the correct number of followers? How to get a thousand, million people to follow you? Why would they follow you? These are questions that need an answer. One of the answers is to pay your followers with boosting. Many applications offer this for money, and people will spam your inbox on social media to get you.  If you pay your followers, you will get what you need to know, but it is not permanent. The algorithm on Instagram will delete your followers. You might lose your account. People can accuse you of spam if you offer them a follower boost. Those followers are not people for interaction, they are numbers. Don't expect comments and sharing from them. Having a lot of followers with some tools is an illusion. If you are an indie author, you will publish independently your books. Probably you have no experience with traditional publishing, or you are rejected by publishers.  You will build your reader's base and promote your books. You will make your book cover by yourself, or you will hire professional cover designers. You will pay an editor. After your book will be published, you will ask for reviews. There are millions of indie authors around the world. Many will not sell more than a few books and your investment will not be effective. Some authors will give up, others will follow their passion. In your path to success, you will fall into some traps. I know that from my experience. Aware of the next traps: Fake promises . Some authors will offer you a review swap. It is punished by Amazon, by deleting these reviews. Also, even if you review other's author's books and expect the same, it is not guaranteed that the author will review your book as reciprocity.
