I know that unpleasant surprise when you click on your Amazon link and the number of your reviews is getting smaller.
Two years ago Amazon deleted my eight reviews. The author who made these reviews got removed account even she purchased the books.
Amazon's logic is next:
Amazon will get banned paid reviews. So, avoid paying promotional services for their reviews.
They will delete biased reviews.
They will delete reviews if there is no track of purchase or KENP read.
They will delete reviews if they notice swapping.
Also, abused and violated reviews will be deleted if someone reported them.
Biased reviews are those reviews from your friends or family, where they praised your books. Amazon will see your connection and delete it.
If you want to protect the review from deleting, purchase the book, or wait until the book will be free and click to download it.
What is totally unfair from Amazon, and it is present a few years ago, are ratings without explanations. If you scroll around author's pages, you will see that even the most popular authors have negative ratings. Those ratings are just marked to put the rating of the book lower, and there is no review. I have those on Goodreads and Amazon.
Some readers in Goodreads marked many books with 1 or 2 stars, so you will see on their pages a total rating of reviews as 2.50 stars.
I will never understand the level of frustration of those readers.
What do you have if you offend the author?
I had a case when I was rejected to review a book, my personal circumstances were bad and it was not a time for reading. The author made an act of revenge, by putting my book ratings lower with 2 negative ratings.
The acting of some authors and readers is on a child's level.
How to fight against this?
You must be the author who is popular, whose books are read and with high sales. That is very hard to accomplish.
Sometimes you can report the review if is personally violating Amazon's standards. Your followers can help you by reporting it.
The best feedback you can give, ignoring it. Unfortunately, those things will happen because indie authors are underrated.
