Why readers love horror stories?

Thinking about genres, my favorite is thriller and horror. Many readers will share my opinion. Excitement and adrenaline are elements of every horror story.

Recently I got review where the reader ask for a sequel. It was a big compliment for the book. I left the element of uncertainty, two characters have an unknown destiny. This is a material for writing more.

As a little kid, I was watching many horror movies. Despite of fear, I would always watch more. Even when I got some nightmares, I still did not give up from horrors.

What readers like :

A feeling something is going on, that raise heartbeats.

A feeling of risk. Something bothers you in real life, and you read about a risky adventure, a dangerous plot, and maybe it will motivate you to move on.

An instinct of survival. Many risky situations will happen in your life, maybe the story will give you solution what you can do.

Horror stories are fast read. Not dependable of number of pages in the story, the action is developing quick, and it is easy to process.

Dangerous situations have an element of passion. When you involve a love story in horror or thriller plot, this mix is irresistible. Will he save her ? How she can help him in trouble?

Researching of unknown. A mysterious plot about something fearful and unknown will capture attention.

Where is the limitation about horror story?

When horror story became disgusting, I want to stop. Eating poops or cannibalism is not interesting neither exciting.

Too many killings. Making a good horror story doesn't mean a lot of blood or violence. It is about motives and the effect of fear, psychological torture about what will happen to victims.

Losing the point of the story. When horror story turn into massacre, it is losing a content. Readers wants to know what happened with characters and their motives. You can't kill someone just like that. It became a parody.

An interesting, powerful, instructive story - when an intelligent woman falls in love with a bad man. This is a real-life story that happens to many women. The story shows that intelligent women and common sense are not immune to falling in love with bad men and the thought that they can change them. A love story that is not really a romantic story. Love is one-sided. Love is stronger than reason, but until a moment when everything has changed. Purchase link:  Seduced by...

Swapping books - a devil's deal

"I will read your book if you read and review mine." This is an example of author's deal when it comes time for reviews. Reviews is hard to get. If you sell books, it is still not guarantee you will get reviews. If I could get a review for every book I sold, it would be great. People will buy book to collect it on the shelves and leave it un-read. Or, they will read but not rate it. Many reasons are for not getting reviews, but some people don't know where and how to write reviews or are not eligible. That is the reason why authors will turn to other authors, with a proposition for review. The danger of such review is on Amazon rules: author can't review other's author books on request. I love to read indie authors and they inspire me, but I have my circle and I never accept offers to read someone I never heard about. Once I got a proposition :" Hey, I saw your review for XX author, can you write it for me, too?" I ignored it. When you have a deal ...
