The category DNF ( Did not finish the book)

Recently Goodreads made a new category in reading books . DNF or did not finish is a real status of many books. I have it on my TBR too. I like reading books, but if it takes too much time and I got bored, this will be the end of my reading.

When this happens?

The plot is expanded. It covers few stories in one, new characters appear, random, unimportant details prolong the story. I got lost in the content and it is not clear, where is the main point?

The genre is mixed. If I want to read thriller, I chose a book marked as a thriller. Sometimes, it interfere with love story, horror and other genres in a way that it losts the identity of the book. I don't want to read about marriage and children of two main characters if this is not a romance.

Side characters became main characters. If a protagonist died and side characters are in the focus, this is not the same story.

The plot has no connection with a reality. I love fiction, but if the book is fantasy, filled with monsters and vampires, I can't read this. I read fairytales when I was a kid.

The writing style is not understandable. I love edited books in a way I can read it. If the book is written on hard understandable way, if sentences are broken or a dialogue is not clear, I can't read it.

Too long descriptions of environment and history. It is enough few details about the weather in the story, but readers don't need a weather forecast. Readers will got bored with a political background and flash back from history, especially if this is not important for the book.

Filthy erotic scenes in every chapter. I don't have to read all intimacy details. The atmosphere can be hot if you include mystery and unpredictable circumstances. Erotic scenes in every chapter spoil the book, even in erotic genre.

This category shows that a reader has an interest, but it has been lost. The book should not be a homework. It should be enjoyment.

An interesting, powerful, instructive story - when an intelligent woman falls in love with a bad man. This is a real-life story that happens to many women. Swapping books - a devil's deal

"I will read your book if you read and review mine." This is an example of author's deal when it comes time for reviews. Reviews is hard to get. If you sell books, it is still not guarantee you will get reviews. If I could get a review for every book I sold, it would be great. People will buy book to collect it on the shelves and leave it un-read. Or, they will read but not rate it. Many reasons are for not getting reviews, but some people don't know where and how to write reviews or are not eligible. That is the reason why authors will turn to other authors, with a proposition for review. The danger of such review is on Amazon rules: author can't review other's author books on request. I love to read indie authors and they inspire me, but I have my circle and I never accept offers to read someone I never heard about. Once I got a proposition :" Hey, I saw your review for XX author, can you write it for me, too?" I ignored it. When you have a deal ...
